Matthews Solocam ASA IL Pro/Am Championships will be held
June 22-27, 2010 at Mermet Fish & Wildlife Area, just 11 miles north of Metropolis.

The city of Metropolis sponsors the Superman Classic, a cash prize archery competition each year prior to the start of the ASA Illinois Pro/Am Championship.  The event is held at Mermet Lake State Fish and Wildlife Area, 1812 Grinnell Road, in Belknap, just 11 miles from Metropolis.  There will be a one-time entry fee of $20.00, and archers will be eligible to shoot 1-3 days, once per day.  Combined prize money for the professional and amateur classes will be $14,000.

Classes offered include: Semi Pro, Known 45/50, Open A, Open B, Open C, Senior Open, Super Senior, Men's Unlimited, Limited, Hunter, Bow Novice, Women's Open, Women's Known, Women's Hunter, Women's Senior, Traditional and Youth Adults.   There will be a stake set for pros, one for amateurs and one for women. 

Shooters will be categorized based ASA Classes and will only be shooting against their class.  The number of prize payouts in each class will be determined by the number of participants in each class.  The Range will change daily and be open from 9am-6pm. Register at 9am or after, & turn in score card by 6pm each day. No start times past 3pm.

There will be a separate range for children, so there will be fun for the whole family. Youth classes are free with no cash awards.   Classes includeYouth Girls, Youth Boys, Senior Eagle, Eagle and Junior Eagle.

Harrah's Metropolis Casino and Hotel hosts an Archer's Reception for all Superman Classic participants on Friday night at the Riverfront Event Center.  For more information, contact Metropolis Tourism at 877-424-5025.

To all of our Spectators, Guests, and Archery Enthusiasts:  Spectators are always welcome to visit the ranges, but need to wait to enter until the range official has signaled for the competition to begin. The ranges are designed to be spectator friendly, and we appreciate your compliance with the following reminders: 

  1. Spectators are not allowed on the ranges prior to the shotgun start.
  2. Refrain from conversations that could interfere with the shooters' concentration.
  3. No pets will be permitted to walk on the ranges.  
  4. Cell phones and other electronic devices should be turned off to avoid disturbing competitors.
  5. Coaching is not permitted during competition.
  6. Range finders are not permitted.

This one-of-a-kind event honors Metropolis’ favorite son, Superman, and is held the second weekend of June each year.  Complete with entertainment, celebrity appearances and even a $1000 Superhero Costume Contest this celebration is a must see event!

ASA Archery Tournament

For over a decade the city of Metropolis has hosted the ASA Illinois Pro/Am Championship at Mermet Nature Conservation Area.  Archers from all over North America visit Metropolis for one week in June to compete for cash and prizes and the title of Illinois Champion.
