Step back in time each October The 36th Annual Fort Massac Encampment Come enjoy beautiful Metropolis during the peak of the beautiful fall foilage. Enjoy homemade food from the turn of the century, crafts, and even mock battles. The Redcoats are coming and so should YOU! 
Daily Schedule of Events Saturday Oct. 17 10:00 AM: Posting of Colours at forts 10:30 AM: 42nd Royal highlanders Bagpipe band at parade grounds 10:30 M - 4 PM Children's Games 11 AM - 3 PM Music of the 18th Century will be performed 11 AM - 4 PM Fife & Drum Demonstrations can be viewed daily 11:30 AM: Voyageurs canoe landing at riverfront 12:30 pm: Children's activities - puppet shows, storytellers and games 1:00 PM: Fashion Show, Small Stage 3:00 PM: Mock Battle and Military Tactical Demonstration, Battlefield 5:00 PM: Military Retreat Closing Ceremony at Forts. Superman Celebration
The second weekend in June is devoted to the annual Superman Celebration. This one-of-a-kind event is dedicated to Metropolis’ favorite son, Superman! Complete with entertainment, celebrity appearances and even a $1000 Superhero Costume Contest this celebration is a must see event! Click here for more information
ASA Archery Tournament
For over a decade the city of Metropolis has hosted the ASA Illinois Pro/Am Championship at Mermet Nature Conservation Area. Archers from all over North America converge on Metropolis for one week in June to compete for cash and prizes and the title of Illinois Champion. Click here for more information
Ft. Massac Encampment
In honor of the heritage of Fort Massac State Park, the third weekend in October is devoted to the annual Fort Massac Encampment. This event draws over 160,000 visitors and brings the Fort to life with re-enactors, period arts and crafts, delicious food and mock battles. Set against the colorful backdrop of Southern Illinois in the fall, this is a wonderful time to visit Metropolis. Click here for more information
