The second weekend in June is devoted to the annual Superman Celebration. This one-of-a-kind event is dedicated to Metropolis’ favorite son, Superman! Complete with entertainment, celebrity appearances and even a $1000 Superhero Costume Contest this celebration is a must see event!
For over a decade the city of Metropolis has hosted the ASA Illinois Pro/Am Championship at Mermet Nature Conservation Area. Archers from all over North America converge on Metropolis for one week in June to compete for cash and prizes and the title of Illinois Champion.
In honor of the heritage of Fort Massac State Park, the third weekend in October is devoted to the annual Fort Massac Encampment. This event draws over 160,000 visitors and brings the Fort to life with re-enactors, period arts and crafts, delicious food and mock battles. Set against the colorful backdrop of Southern Illinois in the fall, this is a wonderful time to visit Metropolis.
