Any Day: Metropolis AVA Walk, sponsored by Lebanon Cedar Cruisers Walking Club. American Volkssport Association walking route available in Metropolis. Every Saturday in September: Farmer's Market on West 6th St. near Superman Statue. Every Friday Night: Renegade Pro Wrestling in arena behind El Tequila Restaurant, 1409 E. Fifth St. 7pm bell time. Admission for adults, Children under 5 are free. Sept. 4: Harrah's Outdoor Concert Series featuring Travis Tritt. Concert held alongside the Ohio River. Must be 21 to attend. For tickets, call 888-512-SHOW. Book your hotel room early! Sept. 4. Southern Illinois Spinners and Weavers Guild demonstrate crafts at visitors center at Fort Massac State Park. 10am-3:30pm. Free. Sept. 6: Metropolis Labor Day Celebration. Parade begins at 10am along Fifth St. and free live music continues throughout the day at Fort Massac State Park. Line-up includes: 11am-noon, Rev. Mike Hardison & the Muhlenberg Sound, guitar pickin'; Noon -1pm, Joe and Liz Hansen, Folk with a touch of James Taylor; 1-3pm, Bawn in the Mash, progressive bluegrass; 3-4pm, No Compromise, Christian Rock; 4-5pm, Cross Harmony, Southern Gospel; and 5-7pm, Legacy 5, Gospel. Legacy 5 has received 2 Dove Award nominations and was the most awarded quartet at the National Quartet Convention in 2004. Concessions available. Free - Bring your lawn chairs and enjoy! Sept. 11: Garrison for the Massiac Marines, 10am-4pm at Fort Massac State Park. The French and Indian War period living historians will present displays and interpretive programs on the 18th century taverne life and brewing. Many homes would have had their own brewing house in those times. Also you will learn more about how taverns were the center of news and entertainment. Free.
Sept. 11-12: Super City/Quilt Connection: A Celebration of Arts Between Two Cities. Events will be held at Harrah's Riverfront Event Center in Metropolis and the National Quilt Museum in Paducah, Ky. Events include Massac Quilters Quilt Show, lectures, demonstrations, exhibitors and more. Sept. 18: The 17th Illinois Territorial Rangers, 1811-1814 re-enactors, preent a living history program at Fort Massac State Park. Free. Sept. 20: Removing the Cherokee - A Soldier's Story. 7 p..m. at Fort Massac State Park. Free program presented as a first-person narrative based on historical documentation by Tony Girard. This event is sponsored by the Trail of Tears in conjunction with the national conference being held in Metropolis. Sept. 25: Super City Sounds Field Show Competition at Massac County High School's Patriot Stadium. Sept. 25: Feast in the Fort - annual fundraiser dinner for Friends of Fort Massac.
